Shazam! After Wonder Woman and Aquaman I like this one too. Kudos to DC.

Today I watched Shazam! (the new movie by DC) in the cinema.

All these Superhero films are so popular I try to watch them as soon as I can before I run into any spoilers on the internet.

DC films have always been a bit less great (besides the Dark Knight Trilogy) than the counterparts at Marvel for me.

In fact...when it comes to Shazam! I never even heard of this hero before (shame on me) and to be honest the trailer for the movie looked pants.

But as you know, I got a monthly pass to visit the cinema as much as I want so I watch a lot of films I otherwise would give a miss.

I was happily surprised by this film. It was actually pretty damn good and shows the uptrend DC is in after their recent films.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman I enjoyed and Shazam! was no different.

Is it flawless? No of course not.

I think DC's biggest problem is that they can't always seem to figure out who their audience is when it comes to their films.

Especially when they jump from very 'Dark' (evil) scenes to very light-hearted scenes.

I sometimes don't know whether I'm watching a kids movie or a horror film.

But in general, it is all very entertaining and that's ultimately what I want when I go to see films like this.

So, kudos to them for finding this new direction.

How different is that at Marvel currently.

They managed to divide their whole Fan base dead in half with one film (Captain Marvel) and whether you agree or disagree with all the commotion around that film, splitting your fanbase to the core like that is always a bad idea.

I'm hoping for Marvel that 'End Game' will deliver and can unite the fans once more.

If not they might have created a serious problem for themselves after 10 years of dominating the cinema in the superhero genre.

And as usual, there is always someone out there to fill the void.

One last thing. If you haven't seen it, the new JOKER trailer by DC looks absolutely fantastic.

I can't wait to see that one.

You're spot on about the DC/Marvel rivalry. I absolutely hated Captain Marvel. That film has more than tarnished the studio's otherwise great reputation that has, thus far, managed to keep Marvel ahead of the game. As you say, if audiences are as divided as they are now of a movie, something is very wrong and needs fixing up fast.

And I do eventually see DC pulling ahead soon. Hell, it's happening right now!

I think we're taking @guthrie to see Shazam soon. Damn. The Joker trailer looks incredible. Seems like DC is finding their footing. I just bought IMAX tickets for End Game for the whole family.

I haven´t seen it yet, but I´m very curious to see the scene "say my name - SHAZAM" that looks very funny on the trailer.

But can't top Marvel yet, Joker looks like a must watch for sure.

I have my ticket for Endgame on Friday April 26 at 8:30AM.

Popcorn and coffee for me!!!

Sweet! Enjoy it man. Avoid the spoilers at all cost :)

I'm going to try :-)

Thanks for the review, Mark and I will need to see the Shazam for comparison!

Exactly, audience should always be considered and tailored to a particular audience. When audience are streamlined, it will be interesting to the set of viewers. I do not like it when i want to ask myself if i just watched a movie for kids and two or three scenes screams adult
