THE BEGINNING
Let me have question for you. What comes in your mind when you hear the word HOLLYWOOD? You might think of all the movies such as mission impossible series, star wars, Titanic or transformers or other exciting films. Perhaps you see an image in your brain of Hollywood sign in big letters over a hill and if you are living there than you might also think of Sunset/Hollywood Boulevard road.

The name Hollywood is different things to different people. Firstly it is place in California but it isn’t a borough, it is a part of a big city, Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is the second vast city in the United States and has a population of 4,000,000 people. In fact 200,000 of them live in the Hollywood. One thing is sure that it can’t be a place it is the always American film industry that we keep talking about. It is the most famous film industry and my idea about it is that it is the place where dreams become true. Hollywood always inspire us and think of great things. Most movies are built near the Hollywood but not in it that is why these movies are called Hollywood films. It is not only famous for the films but also a place for music, television, and radio industry. The movie industry set about in the early twentieth century. Today Hollywood has a lot of shops around it but in 1853 there was nothing but cactuses everywhere. It was called Nopalera because of Nopal cactuses.
Hollywood was first turned into a land for farmers and they called it Cahuenga valley. After this a man called Harvey bought the land of Hollywood and thought to sell them to people for making houses. One day Harvey’s wife went to give a visit to her parents. She got the name Hollywood for their place from a lady she met there and since then the place came to be called Hollywood.!

Do you know how movies were made first?
In June 1878 Eadweard Muybridge drew picture of moving horses and in early 1890s, the New York Edison company made two inventions, the kinetograph and the second Kinetoscope. Using these things at most a single person could watch a movie at a time.

After this invention camera was invented and directors started to make movies. In 1985 a film sea by Lumiere brothers was launched and it was only 38 seconds long. After this movie many other movies came to being at Hollywood. Many other directors came to when they heard this and they begin to spread the name of Hollywood. More movies were released and directors thought it prudent to make their movies there. The movies were black and white but people loved movies so much and they soon started to understand that these movies make money. Some classic characters of Hollywood were Charlee Chaplin who was famous for his act tramp.

Another was Rudolph Valentino, who was a very good actor and he was the actor of the famous movie “the sand and the blood”

and Fred and Ginger who played act in famous “Top Hat” movie another couple like this movie was of Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable who were in the movie “Gone with the Wind”.

By the 1929 the things changed because sound-featured films were made and this was not good for many actors as some of them didn’t had a good voice while some were unable to read and memorize the dialogues. And because of this many actors left the Hollywood and never made a film. By the preceding 1920s there was a fair amount of studios in Hollywood and some of them which were famous were known as big five in the film industry and these were the Twentieth Century Fox, MGM, RKO, Warner bros., and Paramount Pictures. After these studios a lot of movies were flourished around the world and about 90 percent of America’s movies were made here. Not only films but cartoon characters also came into being and a lot of children loved these cartoons also.

Hollywood had a lot of fame and due to the hardworking of actors, directors and other helping people in Hollywood thought to give awards to them and first ceremony of these statue awards held in 1929 when there were only fifteen of these awards which later came to be called the “Oscars”. Now there are more than twenty Oscar awards in the Hollywood ceremonies. Hollywood movie studios have been very interesting to me and I hope that they will always make movies like these. I like the modern films of Hollywood and love to watch them especially the ones from Warner Bros and Paramount Pictures.
