On the Brink of Burnout
“This is not good!” his father-in-law exclaimed. “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.”Exodus 18:17-18
Moses not only led thousands of people in a hostile environment but also served as judge in every argument, small or large. When Moses’ father-in-law saw that Moses stood all day listening to the minor complaints of the people, he counseled him to slow down before he burned out. Moses wisely heeded the advice and delegated tasks to other capable leaders. This allowed him not only to rest in body but also to refresh himself spiritually so that he could accomplish the calling God had laid on his heart.
Sometimes we get caught in the same trap as Moses. It is easy to convince ourselves that no one can do the job quite like we can. Yet delegation is the most effective form of leadership. It fosters maturity in potential leaders and provides a wider foundation of talents for meeting diverse needs. Have you allowed others to share the joys and burdens of ministry, or are you wearing yourself out with a burden too heavy for you to handle all by yourself? Working as part of a team helps you to retain the pleasure of ministering to others without finding yourself exhausted and on the brink of burnout.
DEAR GOD, when I try to do things by myself, I am easily overwhelmed. Sometimes I’m tempted to give up because I am so tired. Give me the wisdom to listen to the wise counsel of others as Moses did. Thank you for always hearing me and for having all the answers even before I know what questions to ask! Help me to share my burden with others and to stop trying to do it all alone.
A BURDEN SHARED IS A LIGHTER LOAD.

Good evening everyone, my sweet and grateful steemians, uloggers & faithful prayer warriors! Tonight's devotion is a timely reminder for me personally because as I shared a few weeks ago that all three (3) of our service con employees resigned last month and I was burdened with tons of work to do everyday. As I read the scripture I was reminded of how I've been handling my work each day. I agree with this line that says "Yet delegation is the most effective form of leadership. It fosters maturity in potential leaders and provides a wider foundation of talents for meeting diverse needs." So after waiting for almost a month the office finally found their replacement and I delegated some to them. I praise and thank God because both our newly hired service cons are smart and intelligent enough to grasp how our work gets done. Both are fast-learners too, praise God.
Now, I can go home early and get things done on time at work. I also started delegating some more to them as I have still a lot to teach them. I hope and pray that they will both enjoy working with us and that they will really find joy in the office each day.
With regards to the ministry I'm into, I praise God because I'm happy with my duties and responsibilities as one of the Sunday school gate keepers. Sometimes I do participate in the praise and worship team because I also love to dance and lead these wonderful kids songs of praise. Well, one thing I love about this ministry is teaching them the action of each song. Praise God indeed for this opportunity to serve our Lord and Savior with everything He had blessed me with. :-) <3
And let's not forget to get proper rest because it is also bad for our health if we will suffer or experience burn out. God is good and He want what is only the best for us and that is to be well rested each day to be able to serve Him with all our best. Amen!
Lastly, may this prayer be our prayer too: "DEAR GOD, when I try to do things by myself, I am easily overwhelmed. Sometimes I’m tempted to give up because I am so tired. Give me the wisdom to listen to the wise counsel of others as Moses did. Thank you for always hearing me and for having all the answers even before I know what questions to ask! Help me to share my burden with others and to stop trying to do it all alone."
Good Sunday evening. God bless us all.
