Green greetings and Happy International Day of Forests from Bamenda, Cameroon.
I feel very inspired that my work as an Environmental Educator is being recognized today. After 9 years of service to people and the planet, I feel very proud that I am receiving my first international award. It gives me so much joy and motivation and I can’t wait to see how much impact I will continue to create after this award. This was supposed to be my first international travel opportunity but due to time constraint, here we are. However, i look forward to visiting the FAO headquarters and Rome someday.
First, I want to dedicate this prestigious award to all the teachers who are educating and engaging young people in forest conservation. In a very special way, I wish to congratulate every teacher who participated in this contest and let them know that; we are the heroes of future generations. Our work with young people is very noble and I want to use this opportunity to encourage you all to keep inspiring, educating and engaging more young people to care for the planet.
Secondly, I want to dedicate this award to all the young people who are striving to make a difference in creating a more thriving, just and sustainable planet.
On the occasion of this year’s International Day of the forests, I wish to call every young person around the globe to go out there and plant a tree.
Today, I am being recognized as a Forest Educator but there is more about me and the work I do than you can imagine.
Permit me use this opportunity to introduce you to The Greens and two of my projects that are working to END plastic bottle and textile waste pollution.
We are currently collecting and transforming plastic bottles into Vertical Gardens and plant nursery pots as well as training 13 young girls for free in textile recycling and fashion designing in a bid to curb youth unemployment, promote agriculture and food security, improve the health and wellbeing of people and clean-up the world.
Our 2019 plastic bottle upcycling goal stands at 750,000 plastic whereas our textile upcycling goal for the year stands at 5000 pounds.
With your support, we can educate, inspire and engage more young people to take action to protect forests and biodiversity, stop plastic bottle and textile waste pollution, promote agriculture and food security and promote sustainable development.
At this point, I want to thank FAO for organizing this prestigious contest that has brought me and teachers around the globe to the spotlight. Your initiative has given me the opportunity to see amazing things teachers around the globe are doing and I look forward to networking and collaborating with all these teachers to promote Forest and Environmental Education around the globe.
Thank you and Happy International Day of Forests.
