Summer Art Class Special

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Conducting summer art classes is one oomyfmy favorite part of year aside from travelling across the my beloved country and dating my very busy fiance. I love it when I get to mingle with some kids, make friends with them, and share my experiences and techniques as an artist.

Anyhow, some might question my experience and expertise as to why I am teaching art although by profession I am not a master artist. This is not actually my first time to be part of a summer class. I suppose this is my fourth year already with the R Productions and Lim Ketkai Center. I also joined some art exhibits but I really prefer being an art teacher! I mean, you got to be complimented by lovely kids and get great hugs from small arms too as well!

So anyway, I am going to share our first day in our art class. I was just so hyped that I was the first one to arrive, well aside from the technical team who helped out in setting the venue. Good job by the way guys!

And since I was the first one to arrive, I arranged the materials that would be needed for the afternoon session.

As you may notice, we had been using Eco bags in our city instead of using single use plastic bags. I was almost done when the other teachers have arrived at the venue. We were suppose to meet by 12 noon, I arrived around 11 in the morning while the rest arrived almost 1 in the afternoon. My girl friend who was staying in Cebu City was suppose to help us out but she was not around because she was not feeling well upon arriving at the city.

Kuya Sherwin (not seen on the picture) was the main teacher and I suppose he would be the main teacher all throughout the 10 session summer class, while the rest of us would be focus on the 5 - 7 years old students as they would be needing a lot of help from us.

Our first session is all about the basic elements of art. I find it the most boring part though but I believe that the subject is the building blocks or foundation for any aspiring artist and even for professional artists as well.

It was the middle of the session when we decided to have an ice breaker. I find that very important because some of the students were already bored and sleepy from an hour of practicing their skills in different strokes.

What appealed to me the most then is when I asked Sophia, a six year old cutie as to whether or not she's getting bored in the class. She answered me in this fashion, "teacher, art takes time so that's okay with me". Indeed she made a point right there. I also laughed on how she commented that the cone she was making and putting some shade on it looked like a burnt pizza. We all laughed upon hearing her remark.

Well, after all the hard work, we allowed our students to draw what they want as theirast activity. It was so cute to see that one of my students, Si Won, drew what I told her few moments before the said activity. She said she wanted to drew a car and asked me what type of car I would love to ride. I told her, I wanted to build and ride a flying car.

I am totally moved by her. Anyway, I will get to see them later. I still need to freshen up because I need to pick up my toga for my upcoming graduation. I am excited for that day and I am more excited on the fact that my fiance would be around on that special day!
