It is a tough one for I know being a mother and grandmother the joy it has bought me and I can totally agree with you -

we have good amount of realization and knowledge about these things then surely we are going to be more careful about their upbringing.

but if you feel that there will come a time when you will not be making decisions for your children so then do you have them only to have their lives turned over to the powers that be?

Your son's thinking is quite interesting in that he would only have kids up to a certain point and then he would not have children if he feels they would not have a good future.
It is a difficult time to be thinking of fatherhood and must be so hard for young folks like your son!
