Freewrite Day 521 Wild

in #esteem7 years ago

My mom used to say I was “out there running wild” when I was a teenage runaway. I would leave without warning and come back unexpectedly sometime later. This started early, and really got going when I was thirteen.

Later, when I was 24, my step-son I had at the time turned thirteen and I had a big startle. He was such a baby! How could my parents have stood it? I would have been frantic if my stepson disappeared for hours when he was 13, much less be gone for days and weeks.

Later still, my son used to run away, but we were on a small island and he would end up at other kid’s houses after hanging out at the beach. The mom would call and I would know he was ok.

But no one was calling my mom since I could have been anywhere with anyone and no one's mom was anywhere I ended up. But I did not feel like I was running wild.

I almost always felt safe and I was safe most of the time. Looking back, I do not know what I was doing. Just looking at the world like I still do.

Both of my parents are dead now and I miss them. I left the country before I was 20 and only saw them a handful of times after that. I kept in touch and let them know where I was as much as I could.

When I moved to California, my mom said, “Are you just trying to get as far away as possible? Call me when you get to Hawaii.” She had passed on by the time the Navy started sending me to Pearl Harbor for conferences, and I sure thought of her then.

One time my dad told me, “I used to worry myself sick, but you always keep landing on you feet, so I stopped worrying and just wait to hear from you to find out where you are.”

So, “Hi Dad. I’m in SE Asia now. Not sure for how long, but I really like it here.”

My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest. Freewrite is a great way to post on steemit when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. It’s a great way to start regular posting on steemit. I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

Statistics say that only 5% of people with health resolutions for the New Year will still be on track after Super Bowl Sunday. Is your fitness equipment still out handy, and are you still on a "diet?" Soon we will be in Bathing Suit Season. Are you ready?

I would be SO worried. My son is almost six and I'm checking on him constantly to make sure he's still around.

When I was 7-8 years old, I wanted to run away from home. More for an adventure than anything else! Back in the early 90s no-one cared about kids roaming the neighbourhood and a friend and I would walk around and map out a plan. We would go to this street! Eat food from that neighbour's garden! Live in that tree! LOL.

I hope he doesn't turn wild and want to run away from home when he's 7-8 too. I would seriously have a panic attack. (Same goes for when he's 13!!!!!)
