This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the lovely @dswigle whose gentleness and compassion have affected incredible and positive contributions towards those who have stumbled upon her lively posts.
This is the evening market right outside my favourite shopping mall, Robinson, in New Road at Bangrak. I always feel very easy walking in this mall as it’s the place for middle income and working people. You would not see expensive brand names here, only sensible and practical goods with occasional 20% reduction during the weekends.
The small area in front of the mall and the space in the small lane have been transformed into evening market with hundreds of stalls selling cheap street food and all kinds of goods at incredible prices. Students and office workers would be gathering around their favourite stalls around 5.30pm.
This is the place I like to come and just walk around watching how people live and survive in the real world. I have noticed that people are more careful with their money and I have heard some vendors complaining how tough life has become. Sometimes I watch them setting up their stalls and observe their faces reflecting their hopes and insecurity. These working people have to put up with lots of difficulties and daily challenges. All my imaginary troubles just pale in comparison with these people’ s concrete and physical obstacles.
I really love to walk in this market while exchanging life’s energy and sending loving kindness all around the place. I feel a lot of respect for these underprivileged people for they have taught me a lot about life and dignity in themselves. They are so different from my circle of privedged and high society friends. These hard working people are more grounded in reality and have the skills for survival when the worst case scenario hits the fan.
เราชอบไปเดินเล่นที่ตลาดตอนเย็น ที่หน้าห้างโรบินสันที่บางรักมาก ที่ห้างนี้มีความเป็นกันเองสูง และไม่สินสินค้าแบรนเนมแพงๆในห้าง เขาเน้นตลาดกลางและตลาดล่าง ทำให้มีแต่ของที่มีราคาย่อมเยาว์และสินค้าก็เป็นของที่เราจำเป็นต้องใช้ในครัวเรือน แล้วยังมีการลดราคา20% บ่อยๆวันสุดสัปดาห์ บริเวณหน้าห้างและซอยข้างๆ ก็กลายเป็นตลาดนัดตอนเย็น ที่มีแผงขายอาหารและของใช่เต็มพื้นที่ ตกเย็นเด็กนักเรียนและคนทำงานในออฟฟิศ ก็ออกมาอุดหนุนอาหารและของกินต่างๆก่อนกลับบ้าน
เราชอบไปเดินดูวิถีชีวิตคนที่นี่ เขามีความขยันและพลังในการต่อสู้ชีวิต และอุปสรรคต่างๆ บางครั้งเราได้ยินเขาบ่นกันว่า เดี๋ยวนี้หากินลำบากขึ้น คนระวังการใช้จ่ายมากกว่าสมัยก่อน เราก็เรียนรู้ถึงความยากลำบากของคนหาเช้ากินค่ำ ทำให้ปัญหาที่เรามีอยู่กลายเป็นเรื่องเล็กมาก เขามีความอดทนและศักดิ์ศรีในตนเอง. ช่างต่างจากกลุ่มเพื่อนไฮโซของเรามากที่ทนต่อความยากลำบากได้น้อยมาก ต่อไปในอนาคตเมื่อเกิดปัญหาวิกฤติ คนที่หาเช้ากินคํ่านี่แหละ ที่จะสามารถฟันฝ่าอุปสรรคไปได้ เพราะเขาอยู่กับความเป็นจริง และต้องสู้ปัญหาตลอดเวลานั่นเอง เราก็หวังว่าคนไทยเราจะช่วยเหลือจุนเจือกัน เมื่อเวลานั้นมาถึง เราคงต้องสวดมนต์มากขึ้นเพื่อเตรียมความพร้อมด้านจิตใจ กับความไม่แน่นอนของโลกมนุษย์
