So...Why The Turban? ๐Ÿ‘ณ A Question Many People Ask Me

in ReggaeJAHM โ€ข last month (edited)

โ–ถ๏ธ Watch on 3Speak

Many people through the years have inquired about why I wear a turban and/or what it means to me, but many more have been too shy to ask, so I thought it would be an easy subject for a short video.

In short, it's part spirituality, part practicality, and a bit of a social tool to help me seem less intimidating and more approachable in various cultures around the world.

No need to ramble too much in written form, watch or listen to the video if you're interested in finding out a little more. Bless up Hivers!!

Hello

So good to see on Hive @phuong.sitha. I am glad you were able to figure out the Keychain and keep your passwords. Keep commenting and find people to follow for a few weeks, then @sreypov and I will help you make your #introduceyourself post. You're among the first Cambodians on Hive, a real revolutionary.

Thanks you

You welcome for comment my vlog.

It was nothing more than a passing "I wonder why..." But I wondered. Thanks for making a video answering the unasked question!

I think too often people think that asking a question like "why the turban" is offensive, when it's usually just curiosity.

Kids are the best for that. No filter. No concept that they may offend someone with that type of question. Which, honestly shouldn't be a question to get offended over unless someone is just flaunting the ignorance flag.

Kids are certainly brutally honest. I love the way they draw me, because everywhere in the world it's the same, a gigantic knot on the bottom of my face and turban 10 times bigger than my real one. I am easily cartoonified by the world's children.

I always like to think I judge a person's wisdom based on the questions they ask and not the the unsolicited information they give. Thanks for stopping by teacher.

Hey Justin! I was curious about the turban for sure! With it you have an element of mystery about you! Quite the opposite of my hair situation! In that department we are polar opposites ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I enjoyed and even laughed a little at the light hearted chat about your hair!

The Nazarite Vows add to your mystique my friend. I can tell that you have a deep seated desire to fulfill something meaningful that you identify with. Your someone with care and conviction.

Thank you for sharing! ๐Ÿ™‚

I think you're mysterious even with all that head-skin showing. Thanks for the kind words my friend. I need to add more sound effects to future videos. @Sreypov asked me why I was putting Cambodian sound effects in my videos, and that made me realize my sense of humor has been seriously affected by this culture. It's 3 Khmer to 1 Ginger in this house, I'm overpowered.

I love watching your family's Hive journey as well.

LOL! Let the mysteries continue then! ๐Ÿ˜

And yes! I thought the sound effects really added to the fun of the video! Your right though... Implicitly you have sponged up some of the Asian culture!

I know just how you feel... I'm in the same shoes as you are! 3 Asian (or part) Beauties' to 1 blond bald guy! ๐Ÿ˜…

Hey Justin! For some reason I have never thought about why you are wearing turban. I guess for me the most important thing is the fact that you are a vegan and a good person. Nevertheless, it is interesting to learn this about you and also sad that you have to face ignorant people. How long it will take for humanity to grow beyond such a pathetic prejudice.

I think most people's curiosity comes from wanting to understand me more, because knowing if someone is a Sikh, Muslim, Bobo Shanti, or something else, it can help us to reason with the person if we understand their culture a bit. I myself am a very curious person, and always have tons of questions for anyone I meet.

Well, I love hearing people's prejudices and how I seem threatening, because it gives me further clues as to how I might disarm a particular group of people in the future. Even though I am an Italist, I always like to think that it's not what goes in one's mouth, but what comes out that is the most important.

Thanks for stopping by chef.

I am personally not religious although I do believe in Divine Creation, Universal/higher Law and Karma. But how people dress or look is completely irrelevant to me. What matters to me the most is their actions.

Anyway, I look forward getting to know you better, because we obviously have a lot in common.

And you are welcome Justin ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

Do what makes you happier... to make life less burdensome, seems a wise path to follow; especially in a peaceful manner. If it becomes a burden in some respect, being open to change remains a possible cure, of which we may often resist for various, personal reasons.

I agree, and I've made many sacrifices to constantly live outside my own norms and culture. There are some things I hold dear that I will not budge on. Here in Suriname we were once invited to a Rastafari gathering, but the Suriname Rastafari said we could not enter the temple if I didn't remove my turban and if @Sreypov wouldn't cover her hair.

I thought, how bizarre, I gotta take mine off and she gotta put one. We chose to not enter and remind them JAH lives in temples not made by human hands. Needless to say we weren't a big hit with the Suriname Rastafari community. We all gotta know our personal limits I guess.

One is more apt to find the Devil lurking within Churches and Temples built by the hand of man, rather than God.

Hahaha interesting people especially kids notorious fir touching foreignersโ€™ hair, especially black folk hair.
Ok, so its more not to get unnecessary attention and keep a clean look. Kinda like the reason I just bald my head ๐Ÿ˜†

Posted via ReggaeJahm | Reggae Culture Rewarded

especially kids notorious fir touching foreignersโ€™ hair,

I had an Inuit student today notice my caucasian arm hair and he started pulling on it. Omg that hurt hahaha.

He also likes to rub my cheeks when I get my 5 o'clock shadow ๐Ÿคฃ

True indeed. Yeah, too many people think weed, Bob Marley, and dreads when they think Rastafari, and those are things not required at all. I choose to hold back any behavior that may reinforce stereotypes, try to look clean and professional, gotta give the Nazarite a good name. Same reason for the bald head, except you are more aerodynamic than me.

Hahaha that click sound for the thumbnail ๐Ÿ˜‚.
And do you man. I never asked and didn't assume, because it doesn't concern me hihi
But nice to know the reasoning's behind it.

I'm glad you apprecialove that. What about the falling whistle when the guy's dreadlocks go in my drink? I try to spruce things up with a few sound effects to keep people entertained. Thanks for noticing!!

Hahahaha I'm very detail oriented; it's a blessing and a curse ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜….
Man, I really don't like when that with the hair in drinks happens. Ok never experienced that; I think; but I did get wet sweaty hair from a stranger in my face during the New Year's Eve street party. I didn't say a thing until the end when everyone was wishing each other Happy New Year and everyone was in a good mood. The stranger did feel bad and he didn't know that it happened haha
