What's up Jose? If I am correct you are from Venezuela right? How come Suriname is so unknown for many from there, especially since the 2 countries are not far apart. Is it not taught in geography there, are we just too small of a country on the continent or is there another reason? I'm just curious. :)
Hahaha I think we aren't as mentioned in geography, but I'm just guessing.
Even though we're neighbors and have a rather similar history, it's still different, with different colonial powers ruling. We were under Dutch rule, while a large part of South America was under Spanish.
But sorry @josevas217 I think you should answer, because you're from there and would know the answer better than any of us.

It's funny, you know, very little I read or saw about Suriname before thanks to you and @tanjakolader I knew more about this country. Then I saw that Justin Parker was also there. And I stopped, wow, am I missing out on something.
Believe me I have asked about your country, and I am amazed at the huge similarities in historical terms between Suriname and Venezuela, yet as @tanjakolader says, they were colonized by different countries.
I knew about Suriname in school but not much importance was given to it. Suriname as an independent country is quite new, since 1975 from what I read, I was born in 83, when I saw geography and history classes at basic level, the history of independent Suriname was very new, so, little is seen.
Perhaps also because they have not been colonized by the same people, they do not give it the importance it deserves.
But believe me, I have learned more about the real reality of your country thanks to your publications.
And I can tell you that regardless of the language we have, the stories are similar and even the historical present is similar.

And I get what you're saying, Venezuela and other neighboring countries fought for their independence way earlier than Suriname. And happy that our story is reaching others and you've also opened a world that's a bit foreign to us. We learn and grow together 😉.
The languages spoken might be another reason why not much information is traded between the 2 countries. I think it's easier for the Spanish speaking countries to communicate among each other, instead of with the 4 countries in South-America speaking a different language than Spanish. Brazil being the exception of the 4, because of how big and well-known they are.
