It's never a scam...

I was just listening to an Afrobeat song titled 'Adulthood Anthem'; a song by the Nigerian musician Lade. It is quite an interesting song; the fact that it speaks of reality makes it so. However, I have always had different thoughts from those of Lade. Do not get me wrong, though; I love the song for the fact that it pinpoints the challenges that come with being an adult. But I may never agree with the saying "*adult na scam*". For those of us who do not understand Pidgin English, it simply means "adulthood is a scam", and that, for me, is not true.

I do not know what must have prompted Lade to argue that adulthood is a scam, but I see it from a completely different point of view. To be an adult may not be easy, but life in general is never easy. Adulthood as a matter of fact is a stage of life, and like every stage of life, it comes with it challenges. But then, it does not just come with challenges, it also got provillages, provillages that we must acknowledge too. I think Lade failed to acknowledge those provillages in her song Adulthood Anthem.

Adulthood Anthem by Lade

In my opinion, there is never an easier part of life; and thus, there is never an easier stage in life. The best we can do is to enjoy whatever it is that life brings; none of it is a scam for obvious reasons. On this, many may still not agree with me, but the very fact that every stage of life, be it adulthood or childhood, is a complete part of our reality dismisses any argument that considers it a scam. Adulthood is real; it is part of our reality, and it would be out of place to consider it a scam simply because it has its negative parts. Come to think of it, even childhood has its disadvantages, and that is why no adult would want to become a child again.

In summary, to refer to adulthood as a scam is to refer to our entire reality and existence as a scam. Of course, an adult referring to adulthood as a scam simply implies that their entire life is a scam. Lade, in her song, might have condemned adulthood to be a scam, but her claims were based on a comparison between the disadvantages of being an adult and the advantages of being a child. It was never holistic, and that is the problem. Adulthood is never a scam, neither is childhood, and that can only be understood if we put both the advantages and disadvantages of being one into consideration. Once again, adulthood is never a scam, and neither is childhood.

This song comes from a deep emotional struggle, everyone knows that reality unfolds as we grow older,Being a kid you were being fed and taken care of so when you become an adult,You would definitely feel like you were being deceived to grow to this stage

No doubt, it is a beautiful song. Particularly for the fact that it outlined the struggles that comes with being an adult, but that is not enough reason to refer to an entire stage of life as a scam. The feeling of being deceived into growing is no doubt associated with the fact that we all want to once again enjoy the benefits that comes with being a child, but no one really wants to entirely go back to their childhood stage.

Thank you so much for stopping by the way, I sincerely respect your opinion on the matter.
