RE: CONCERN FOR THE DAPP'S SUSTAINABLITY; SHOULD DRUGWARS BE A DIDACTIC LESSON?

in #steem7 years ago

@josediccus, I will leave you here a reply I gave to an angry 'investor' - there is a tendency on the internet to be bipolar, to shout jubilantly (ref link marketing) one day and RAGE furiously the next, neither of which is conducive to smart thinking, much less investing. From this post I responded:

While we are on the topic, and at risk for soaking up the ire of an entire generation of steemians, why anyone thought it was a good idea to 'invest' in this game is beyond me, and (buyer beware) they probably deserve to get soaked. I mean, broncnuts was posting about how he was hiring his employees to play drugwars because the ROI was so high! 11 days later he was rage smashing the drugwars posts.

Now, I do think 'mistakes were made' is probably an understatement, and I do wish that the top crypto app in the world, which happens to be on STEEM, our blockchain, had thought a little bit more about PR. But y'all are spewing so much negativity that I just have to shed a little bit of reality here (if everyone was being more reasonable I could probably make a few criticisms of my own).

I had a long talk with Hightouch yesterday about game mechanics, which I hope to getting around to making a post about, and it is very clear to me that they are VERY interested in making a good game. I hope, above anything, that the game continues to improve.

I don't have to hope that people learn a lesson about 'investing', because I think that already happened.

Making a game 'live' with a bunch of screaming children 'investing' has got to be one of the hardest things in the world to do. I don't know why they chose to do it this way (although, if any publicity is good publicity, and their number one spot on state of the dapps says anything, maybe they are smarter than we think), and maybe they wouldn't do it the same way again. But so many people are off the reservation with rage that its hard not to defend the dev team just as an act of centrism.

Gaming is not investing. Never has been, never will be. That some people 'made money' does not change the fact that no one was ever going to pay their bills with this game.

You will notice that the angriest people also promoted this game with their referral links. Shaking my head....

What an amazing reply buddy, that definitely sums it all, people who seems to be enjoying how drugwars were are the one's that seems to be complaining now, it's not a means of livelihood it's only a game and I think they need to understand this to find closure really.
