Give thanks for the b-day wishes my fellow emigrant Venezuelan brother from another mother. Most people doesn't know Suriname exists, that's true, but I've also discovered most Surinamers haven't heard of Cambodia or Albania, some other places I've lived.
The first thing I remember of Suriname is a few sentences about it from a US History school textbook in perhaps 3rd or 4th grade. What is now New York was traded for Suriname, and that's about all we were taught. Guyana is a whole other story, well-known because the notorious Jim Jones was from my state of Indiana, not far from my boyhood home.
