Hahahahahahaha I love this post, it's funny and engaging at the same time. The pictures are spectacular, really. Worthy to make a small story of ''the pirate of the coconuts''. On my list of dreams to fulfill, is to go to Suriname to eat coconuts, here in Venezuela they wouldn't leave any on the ground or in the trees.

As I already learned with wasted mangos, if you first politely ask the Surinamese homeowner to pick a few, they will demand supermarket prices, defeating the purpose. As the fruit is already going to waste, and we are in a much worse economic situation than the locals, I feel no guilt in returning later to pick like a ninja without asking.

Yes my friend, I would do the same. xd

It's amazing the amount of waste here, but I think people here are slowly having a Venezuela-like awakening, realizing they have to make major sacrifices to maintain a certain standard of living in this failing economy. Venezuela was very wealthy not long ago, and I bet many people now foraging daily there wouldn't considered something like that beneath them as little as 15 years ago. Pretty soon Surinamers are gonna have to start making some difficult choices about where to cut living costs.
