Though I've been spending a lot of time with family lately, there were some family members I hadn't seen in a while, because of work and them living a bit far from us. That's why we made it a date last Sunday and at first we didn't know whether we were going to have a potluck or if we were going to order food from a nearby restaurant. A Chinese restaurant that is.
Because one family member wasn't thrilled of the idea ordering Chinese food, that person suggested to prepare curry duck and to order roti's - South Asian round flatbread - to go with it and everyone agreed to it, because they had actually promised to prepare and eat it together some time ago day.
So it was decided, we were having curry duck, roti's and one member even volunteered to prepare dal, while another made the curry long beans and potato side dish. The person who proposed having curry duck instead of ordering food, was the one who cooked the bird.
Knowing we were going to spend a whole day together, snacks and dessert were also on the menu. Bara - a Surinamese evolved version of South Asian vada - and pholourie were among the South Asian snacks (forgot to take pictures) and I was asked to fry the fish croquettes and put the meat filled puff pastry in the oven.
After having enjoyed that savory meal, instead of taking a breather the family put their hands together to fix some things around the house, like that one loose leg of the couch. Though we didn't have the right size screw and had no (wood) glue at hand, we used a bamboo sate skewer as a quick temporary fix.
All in all, it was a pleasant productive Sunday, filled with laughter, delicious food, cold drinks and funny stories. How was your weekend? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.
