Round the back of my road is a lot of ground belonging to the University of Leicester. It's a very mixed area of state of the art residential, leisure and sports facilities and other, more marginal, spaces.
The Manor Road Sports Ground is one of those other spaces.
It has this disused running track. More truly, it is a very well used running track, but is not maintained by the University (or anyone else).
That yellow warning sign tells people to keep off the track, but they use it to practice anyway.
The Sports Ground has a border of beautiful trees. It is always thrilling to be there when there is a high wind and you can hear it in the trees. Next to the tall conifer is a flowering cherry - always beautiful at this time of year.
Just behind, covering the ground, you can see a carpet of bluebells. Earlier, it was daffodils and, earlier still, snowdrops.
More bluebells under the avenue of trees at the back of the Sports Ground. I often wonder who put this drive here, was it to a stately home, now long gone?
Other wildflowers included nettles, very lush in this hidden border land. I'm looking forward to coming here in high summer when these borders will be nearly as tall as me.
This was just the start of my walk today - I ventured down a footpath, over a field, into the Arboretum and across the golf course (keeping to the footpath so I didn't get brained) before making my way back up the hill to the back of my road.
Then this evening I had quickly run out to get some milk! It was a good day 😍
