AFRI-TUNES WEEK 18|| THE EPIC AFRICAN PALMWINE GUITAR||Groove BY @MAGICFINGERZ

Hello my people! What's popping!! How are you getting ready for the weekend upon us! I hope you've got some plans to chill. As for me, am already chilling into the weekend.
Yeah! It's Afri-tunes week 18! Another opportunity to share African sounds and vibes. And I've brought you a whole new afro sound called the palm wine guitar!!

I know that may sound a bit strange though, palm wine guitar??? What the hell is that? 😒
Well let me clarify you. Firstly, palm wine as the name denotes is simply a wine that is gotten from a palm tree that is widely enjoyed in the west African coast particularly in Nigeria.

A FRESHLY TAPPED PALM WINE IN A LOCAL WINE DISH

In essence, palm wine guitar is a genre of music that emanated in the colonial time during fun time and parties where palm wine is the regular booze. In other words, the audience enjoyed palm wine as they enjoyed this genre of music that was mostly played by guitars and afro percussions.

History has it that it was born out of the fusion of Latin Spanish music and afro song pattern and that could be easily verified by musical inclined listeners because it contains almost the same chordal dynamics as Spanish guitar. For instance évident use of dominant se venths and 6ths and even thirds.

This genre has evolved so much that these days keyboards and horns like trumpets and saxophone now join in the band of palm wine guitar. Hence, it is now denoted as palm wine music.

It has also influenced a lot of African sounds such that what we call highlife music today contains great and visible elements of palm wine guitar. No wonder, guitars are indispensable in highlife bands.

Okay enough of the super stories, today I have cooked up several memorable PalmWine guitar sounds that I can recall and I have recorded it with a background afro percussion by @Jeromekeys in the above video!

Brother, this is so groovy.
The vibes were "African" in a refreshing way.
I practically imagined how our forefathers enjoyed themselves, drinking palm wine, listening to your song, and grooving along with their heads.

I actually have never heard of this genre before. Or rather, I heard it on the radio in the ol' days (when radios were still in town), but never did I know the genre. To understand what the genre sounds like, I had to first look it up just now and then listen to samples.

Well done, brother.
Somehow, I am not interested in finding some palm-wine music.

Dude, how a chilling vibe, thanks for sharing! I love the smoothie way you played the guitar!. Also, I've never heard of this genre before, or at least I didn't know the name and I'm sure there's a plenty of music that takes influence from its essence. Keep this project and thank you so much again for sharing music not only by playing but by teaching and spreading knowledge!
