Kindness at the Olympics 🥇 #Hearts of Gold

Greetings Hivers,

Today I’d like to write a little about one of the stories that brought tears to the eyes of many Jamaicans a few days ago. As you know two of the Jamaican 🇯🇲 Athletes were successful in winning gold and bronze medals for the 110m hurdles event.

What you may not have known in that the gold medal winner🥇, Hansle Parchment, could have missed out on his chance to win the medal had it not been for the kindness of one of the volunteers who helped him to get to the venue in time for the semi-final event. From his account of what happened, Parchment took the wrong bus and ended up at a totally different venue during the semi-final stages of the 110m race. One of the Olympic volunteers assisted him by actually giving him money to take a taxi 🚕 to the correct venue. In the end he was able to make it back in time to run and qualify for the finals where he won the gold medal for the 110m hurdles.

After the event Parchment went in search of the volunteer that helped him to express his gratitude for her kindness. He also gave her a T-Shirt and showed her the gold medal 🥇 that she through her kindness had helped him win.

Video of the story can be found here.

Stay connected, stay safe.

You know at first I though he gave her the gold medal LOL, but that would be too much. Really respect what they both did. I wish more people would live like this. The world would be a much better place. I heard the Jamaica tourist board giving the volunteer a free trip to Jamaica fully paid for to. Giving keeps on giving!

@dmilliz Yeah bro. I love these kind of stories that show our humanity. Competition has its benefits but it is these kind of back stories that show who people really are. This story has received so much attention since the video was posted by Parchment. It’s really buzzing now especially in the local media and social media platforms. Did you see this @missaj ?

I did indeed. A good story.

When people come together; love! That's the beauty of sports; people/countries compete against each other and yet find a way to help each other out (happy tears hihi).

I think that this story will have a greater reach than the gold medal won by Hansel Parchment. It has now reached the Japanese media.

It even reached Suriname's media! 😁 And I was so happy that for me it was "old" news, because I had already read about it here 😂.

Here are the articles from Dutch and Suriname's online media:

@tanjakolader Nice. You are already in the know. Lol 😆. I pray that this act of kindness will inspire others to be kind too.
