Luke 18: 1-8

1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Jesus used the parable above to teach us fervency in prayer. Prayer is very important in the live of every believer. It affords us into the deeper realms of God. Through prayer, we commune with God and lay our requests to Him.

There are times the believer prays and doesn’t receive instant answers; this doesn’t mean God didn’t answer. He could be bearing long with him. Our spiritual exercise might not bring instant result as expected but it doesn’t mean there are no results in it. There is great need to be consistence in doing it till the result manifest.

Hear what God says in the scripture in Jeremiah 33: 3:

"Call unto me, I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not." —
There are different translations of the phrase “great and mighty things”. Other versions interpretes it thus:
"I will shew thee great and fortified things."

"Great and reserved things..."

Some remarkable secrets…”(LB)

The above scripture points us to the fact that there are mighty, reserved, remarkable and special things in Christian experience: all the developments of spiritual life are not alike easy of attainment.

There are the common and reachable frames and feelings of repentance, and faith, hope, and joy, which are enjoyed by the entire family; but there is a deeper realm of communion, and conscious union with Christ, which is far from being the common dwelling-place of believers.

In Jesus, earthly ministry, some disciples got a deeper experience and access to Him than others, so do we all not have the high privilege of John, to lean upon Jesus' bosom; nor like Paul, to be caught up into the third heaven.

Sincerely, we must come to the realization that there are heights in experimental knowledge of the things an secrets of God and His kingdom which the eagled eye of philosophic thought has never seen: only God can bear us to such heights.

How then do we reach these heights with God

The medium of prevailing prayer is the chariot in which God takes us up, and the fiery steeds with which that chariot is dragged. Prevailing prayer grants us this access to God like Jacob had when he wrestled with the angel.

Jacob had wept, and made supplications unto God and finally found Him in Beth-el, and there he spoke to Him and on his return from Haran, changed his name there. Prevailing prayer takes the Christian to a greater height with clouds of blessing, and earth with floods of mercy.

Prevailing prayer bears the Christian aloft to Pisgah, and shows him the inheritance reserved; i

Through prevailing prayer, we see the inheritance preserved for us and are transfigured to a deeper glory into the likeness of God, even while in this world.

If we as Christians desire to reach a height higher than ordinary grovelling experience, we must look to the Rock that is higher than we and gaze with the eye of faith through the window of fervent prayer that God answers.

REFLECTION:

Quitter don’t win and at such we must never give up.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, endue me with your grace never to quit and be weary in well doing.
