15“Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. 16Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us.
17“Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. 19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”
Dear friends
The prophet Daniel was taken captive to Babylon in the first deportation of the Jews by King Nebuchadnezzar (605 BC), fulfilling in him and the other captives, part of the prophecies of Jeremiah, who had announced in advance the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple.
Daniel lived during the splendor and glory of the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar that was considered the golden age of Babylon. He witnessed the fall of the Empire into the hands of Belshazzar, and the rise of the Medo-Persian Empire under King Cyrus.
When he was advanced in age and seeing that the captivity was approaching 70 years, Daniel studied the book of Jeremiah where he found the number of years that the captivity should last (Jeremiah 25: 11-12).
This prophetic word encouraged his spirit to intercede for his people by humbling himself before the presence of the Lord. His desire was to know God's will for his people, and he wanted to confirm the fulfillment of that prophecy. The prophet sought the face of the Lord in prayer and supplication, in fasting, sackcloth and ashes.
Taking Daniel's prayer for Venezuela this allows us to implore the mercy of the Lord in these times in which social and political economic changes have impacted our nation.
One of the phenomena that have occurred in Venezuela is the revival of the Christian faith so that all in communion we should implore the Lord Jesus Christ to help us in these moments of great uncertainty and change and to lead our country to a reunion between brothers and give us your Peace.
Brothers built on the love of Jesus raised on the cross for the remission of the whole world, let us pray for all humanity and especially for Venezuela.
Let us pray that our church animated by its pastors will come to the aid of so many people who today suffer victims of selfishness and indifference.
Listen, Lord, these prayers that we offer as a living offering to your altar, confident that you are listening to us and moved by your glorious resurrection. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
