I’ve Tried
Above is my mid-week lunch. I had “kitsune udon” with rice and some pickles. The rice had some vegetables. “Kitsune” literally means fox in Japanese but in this meal “Kitsune” is the deep fried tofu that’s on top of the udon noodles. It is also topped with wakame seaweed and chopped leeks. I love it. Lunch was good but I had a “problem”.
In Japan and several Asian countries, it’s good to slurp your noodles. I’ve tried mentally to do it but can’t get myself to. Well... that’s a minor problem but...
Do you slurp your noodles?
It’s amazing how difficult it is to undo learning. In many western countries, slurping or making loud sounds while eating, is considered to bad table manners. One who does it is considered to have poor dining etiquette.
Interestingly, what’s considered good manners in one country may be considered bad manners in another.
One day I’ll slurp it.
Do you have other examples of food practices that are considered bad in some countries but good in others?
Please share them in the comment box.
Have a great weekend. 😃
