The current mobile phones are more like the modern version of a Swiss pocket knife!

When I was young(er) the Swiss Pocket knife was a multi functional tool. I guess all people from my age have owned one or two or even more.
Now in these modern times, we do have a new versions of a Swiss pocket knife, called the mobile phone!
Well my Iphone 7 died on me last night. I knew there were problems with the connector so it wasn't charging like it should! Sometimes it took me 5 minutes to get the lighting cable into the connector in such a way that the phone actually would charge! I even had moments when the phone was discharging in stead of charging. So I knew that it was time to order a new one!
Which I did last Friday. But like always, my hestitation to spend money did cause me some problems!

Now it completely dead :( So I do feel helpless. And the phone is important to me. For several factors.

Work

Well my employer enforces 2 factor authentication to login to the network. Each friday we have to fill in our billing so that invoices can be sent to the customers. But also if I do want to read my company mail, I do need to 2FA tool.
Of course they have choosen a tool, which can only be installed on one device. So the most logical place to install it was my phone.
Luckily I already did request information how to install it on a new phone. It was a hassle this morning but now it is installed on the company phone of my customer.
Still checking my email for news about the delivery of the new ordered one!

Crypto

Well most exchanges have also enforced 2FA. So for the moment I can't trade any cryptcurrencies! Not that I do want to, but it would have been nice to do so. I know I can also install this on the other phone, but I do want to have this installed on only one device. Which of course now does bite me in the ass!
Just did another refresh of the company email but no news!

Steem

Steem, my beloved steem. What would I be without you! I do write 90% of the comments I write via the mobile. I have @partiko installed, steemconnect, @esteem.app and so on.
So probably a lot less engagement from my side until the new phone arrives. I know that I also could install these tools on the client's company phone, but I really don't want to do that!
Also I wasn't capable of posting my actifit report from yesterday and it was one above 10K. Darned missed 1.5 steem due to this!

Alarm

Now suddenly I do think about the alarm from the house. All this information is also on my phone. I do switch it on and off via the phone, I do get the notifications and so on.
Can you understand slowly why the new mobiles phones are more and more the new version of the Swiss Pocket knife?

Other tools I am missing out on the moment

Discord, Blockfolio, Climate control, ...
Probably even some important tools which I don't even think about them now!
Mhh, also the shared family agenda!

Photos

The most newer phones have a better photo quality than the regular camera's from 10 years ago. So, only real photo enthousiast do buy a real camera, all other people are just shooting all the pictures with their phones! Not onlu taking the picture but also storing the pictures!
Luckily we don't only have faith in Apple but also in Google. The family agenda and pictures are shared between all devices via Google.

In the mean time I did refresh the company email and still no news.

We are going away from the weekend with the complete family from my side, so taking great pictures would have been a blast. Not only taking them but also sharing them! So another set back!
Which reminds me at the moment, that the @esteem.app isn't installed on the iphone 8 yet. So I will also have to do this, otherwise you won't be able to read this post :(

What about you!

Which would be the biggest loss if you lost your phone or the phone died on you!
For me it is simple, I would miss the cover the most!

I will go to a repair shop later today, hoping that they can fix the problem! This has to be done anyway!

Ack... having a phone die unexpectedly is such a pain! The 2FA would be the most annoying, as that means hunting down all the seeds... you've given me a idea to have an alternate unused phone to also have the 2FA running... just so it is easier to reset the 2FA on various services!

We have grown oh-so-dependent on all the technology on our phones! You don't realize how much until, like you are experiencing, it goes out. Being in the middle of nowhere depending on google maps on the phone, and having it die, is a disconcerting experience!

I can relate as I was on an island with no reception for two days and now I feel that the world has gone by without me! My scheduled post did not get through yesterday which made it my first day in months without have a post! Same for @actifit! Now reading your post has me thinking I should have a second device laying around just in case!

I have a phone from the client and a phone bought together with the company.
The 7 is just repaired and will be for the oldest son when the XR arrives. Hopefully next week!

I have a nice calculator, the Internet and a gps on my phone. Those are an awful lot of tools. There is even a light, too. Combined with a swiss army knife, and a small solar pack to keep the thing charged when in the forest, this would be a lot of good stuff.

It is always best to get back ups of information on your phone. These days a lot of people rely on everything on their phones. When I used to take the early morning commute to work I was always worried. What will I do if I get mugged on the bus? During that time there were a lot of news on social media of people getting mugged on the bus. If ever that happened I was willing to throw away my phone outside the window on some watery area to render it useless. Like you I was also worried about the crypto but now all backed up and safe.

Hey on the bright side, the iPhone 8 is better than the 7 right :)

I guess, I would miss my alarms most
And the app would be Actifit
I know what it is like when you have decent count and for whatever reason, it doesn't get posted

And of course the camera .... yeah. I haven't owned a camera camera like forever .....
