What Would YOU Do With 100,000 Steem Power?

What Would You Do?

People often talk about what they would have done if things were different, or if they hade been given the opportunity and things like that. People talk about change and how things should be or could've been. Personal opinions, behaviour, goals and lifestyles varies, just as people's stake. However, if you had 100,000 Steem Power, what would you do?

In case a user close to or at 100K+ SP happens to read this, feel free to tell me what you are doing, and/or what you would've done if you had 500K or 1 million Steem Power instead.

I am not looking for any type of fantasy stories or things you believe I (or someone wealthy) would like to hear. I want to hear genuine ideas and thoughts. Things you honestly believe that you would do if you had 100,000 Steem Power.

What would you do?

I love to daydream and I often think about things that never or probably never will happen, 100K Steem Power is one of those things. I'm not saying that it's impossible, because it's not. But I don't think that I will ever reach that amount. And honestly, 100K isn't that exaggerated and it would make a huge difference.

The first thing I would do, or the first thing I think I would do, is to stop voting on my own content. I am not against self-votes in general, even though I wouldn't appreciate the biggest whales to vote for themselves multiple times per day. I find that sort of behaviour greedy and selfish, but I vote on my own content now, and I will probably do it in the future as well. You see, I vote for my own content because it becomes sort of a guarantee for myself to earn something. It's different for wealthier accounts.

They get tons of exposure due to the size of their wallets, so I would not vote on my own content if I had 100K Steem Power. Anything I wrote or did would attract tons of people and I would receive hundreds of upvotes from others, so it wouldn't be necessary to self-vote.

If I stopped to self-vote, I would also have "extra" votes to reward other users with. I can totally see how this might sound like some sort of hypocrisy or whatever, as I self-vote today. The only answer I have is that I need a guarantee to earn something when I share content. If I had 100,000 Steem Power, the actual size of my account would be the only guarantee I needed. I would be rewarded more than I am today and the only difference is the actual size of my account. People often support and interact with wealthier accounts automatically because its an attempt to taste the crumbs they might spread on their audience.

Anyhow, the increased support I would get, based on what I wrote above, would also be the reason for me to stop self-voting.

This leads to the second thing I would do, or the second thing I think I would do, if I had 100,000 Steem Power. I would most likely curate differently. First of all, I would put all my focus on users close to 500 SP. I would probably not upvote any content from any other users, except for the people I have on my autolist and/or users I have frequently upvoted for a long period of time.

However, this would most likely be time limited, in the sense that I would focus on users close to 500 SP for 2 weeks and "ignore" them for the next 2 weeks after that to focus on whoever I wanted to support.

I can see why this might be a bad approach, and I can totally understand that some people, especially those who would automatically be ignored, would dislike that sort of discrimination. However, I would have to "find my own way", and as I currently believe that a strong middle class is a must have for STEEM to ever flourish, I would prioritize users close to 500 Steem Power before anything else.

I would probably change the Minnow-ASAP project a bit, and take on 10 or perhaps 20 users in total and push them into Minnowhood. Once they had reached that goal, I would take on new users again.

Even though we have projects and initiatives out there who already focus on minnow-making, I would definitely focus on building a middle class. My entire stake would be going straight towards "soon-to-be-minnow" users. And I would get a new title on STEEM. - Mmm... Minnow-Making Machine.

The third thing I would do, is to donate more to charity and to those in need. I'm not talking about giving away money to any of the beggars I get DMs from on Discord. But real charity projects. Donate to help kids get new stuff for School etc. Help someone to get food for the week or pay a bill. Things like that. I would basically just try to do more than what I have done.

I honestly do not think I would change. I would still vote primarily at the 50% level, and still for 15-20 post a day. I have a few people I give 100% votes to, and everyone else gets 50%. I am always happy with any vote I get, but not all votes are the same. I may not be "happier" with a big vote, and then again I may be. If it is a vote from someone I follow and like, or from someone that is known for being nice, yes I would be very much more happier with a big vote from them. (I once got a $10.00 vote from @grumpycat, I kind of miss his views and view points on steemit).

So being able to give out a $1.20/$2.40 vote to the people I follow, the tags I follow, I think that would be fantastic. Yes I could lower the percentage and spread the net wider, but I like the tags I follow, and the post under those tags. I do save some votes for new post or people I have not voted on before, but spreading the vote to thin is not me.

Lets say a small town needed a new water treatment plant, it was a town of 30,000 people. Building this treatment plant would cost 30,000,000 dollars. Someone with big pockets give every resident 1,000 dollars to build the water treatment plant, but they do not need to use the money for that purpose, it is just suggested. Do you think that $1,000 in hand now to fix the bathtub, or the car or the what ever, would not out weigh the water treatment plant?

I know the tags would end up being flooded, but I would be careful about the votes I gave out. When I run real short on Vote Power I have dropped to 25%, ant that is what it was asked for the #tenkminnows boosting post. Featuring 20 people at a time that would be 5 full power votes, a pretty good guide to help build and still leave votes for my regular accounts.

So I guess, no real change in how I do things, I just do not think I would have time to find more that the 15-20 post a day.

I think the $1000 would be used for other things than what they had in mind initially, but I still think it would be a superb gift. It would help them tremendously.

I can totally see your reasons for not spreading your votes too thin, I have the same thought as you on that one. I want to reward users as much as possible, I want my votes to count. I appreciate any votes I get, but honestly speaking, seeing those 0.5% votes from whales, is kind of annoying to me. And it's not because I am lucky to receive one occasionally, it's about the actual voting pattern.

They could easily throw in a 5% vote instead of 0.5%, and it would instantly become a decent worth that people would actually benefit from. Imagine a 50% vote here and there. It's a huge bonus for authors and it boost confidence and motivation. People get encouraged and excited when they receive upvotes like that.

I'm glad you already have a good plan laid out for you, that would work no matter the size of your stake.

There are only so many hours in a day, I would rather give a $10.00 vote to a photo or post I like than have a bot give a vote to something that I would never in a hundred years give a vote to. I know the vote bots have their place and that is fine, me I value my vote, I guess the people that vote sub 5% don't really care what they vote on as long as they get a return on what they see as Their investment. Nothing comes out of a persons wallet unless they send steem to someone from the wallet.

I would dance in happiness because Now I have power and staring at that SP for a days just to make sure it is really 100.000.000 SP .. LOL.

First.. I will delegate 30k to @steemcommunity, the 30K to @steem-indo and use the rest of it to empower the any minnow wanna be through upvote and easy contest like "what's your next challenge?".

Uhmm.. maybe I will cash it out about 500 steem to buy starter deck and give it away😁

So, if I understand this correct, you would cash out and/or make sure to earn enough to travel the world? Sorry if it sounds like I'm judging you or anything, that's absolutely not my intention. Just wonder if I understood you correct.

Would be really awesome to travel. I haven't been outside of Sweden in about two decades now...

I put it in SP ... and when I use this 100 000 SP to make cool posts when I go see world... I think it helps me to earn more in long run and helps me get every month something .

If I take just now all this 100 000 out it is just one month of fun and this all . It is not good.

Hey, @hitmeasap.

I'm happy with the way I'm doing things now, and 100,000 SP wouldn't change things for me that much. A 100% upvote of $2.75-ish is definitely more than I am able to give out now, but I don't give out a lot of those as it is. That could be one of the changes I make, maybe more 100% upvotes, but I would still end up spreading my upvotes around as much as I can as a manual curator.

I don't think I would change who I'm upvoting, either, as I end up upvoting mostly plankton and minnows, with a few dolphins here and there. I don't think I would concentrate on anyone in particular, but would do it based on who I judged should get one on their posts and comments.

I know it's being commonly put out there that the minnows are the middle class, and we need more of them, but I'm more inclined to say the middle class is actually higher up. A minnow of 500 SP really isn't middle class in my mind. Someone in the 3000 SP range and up is definitely closer, though.

So, anyway, since you were asking, I thought I would share my thoughts. I wouldn't delegate out (I'd rather support those I want to support directly and earn curation rewards since I wouldn't want to charge), and I wouldn't start self-upvoting since I don't do it now.

What else? I think that's it. Spread my upvote out but maintain some decent upvote amounts, drop at least 100% upvote every day, and keep curating what I think to be content that adds value to the STEEM platform.

Honestly speaking, I agree with you to some extent. 500 SP might not be enough to be a middle class, as that would mean that people with 501 SP would be on the way from middle class to upper class. And it would be hard to say where the "upper class" begins.

I mean, dolphins could basically be the middle class, as we have both orcas and whales above them, and red fish, minnows and plankton below:

That said, dolphin level is at 5000 SP meanwhile Minnows are at 500 SP. So I personally believe that the real middle class should begin somewhere at 2500 SP in a "perfect world" so to speak.

However, the gap between the different classes are huge, and I personally know how difficult it is for newcomers to reach that 500 SP mark, which is why I also believe it's important to help these users and also to make them feel "more included" in the ecosystem.

I will continue to mention 500SP as the middle class, as I believe that 500SP is a huge milestone for these people. They deserve to feel more "included" and more important on STEEM in general. They also get the voting slider at 500SP, so I think it's a good idea to have them included in the middle class at that point.

That being said, I like your mindset and I appreciate the comment. I can totally see that you'd do good things with 100K SP. :)

I think you and others who are working with the ten thousand minnow initiative, or the 250 a month, are doing amazing work. There definitely needs to be more minnows before there can be anything else beyond that, so don't stop. :)

I just wouldn't call it growing the middle class, per se. It's a small matter, though, compared to the herculean efforts going on by those trying to reach 500 SP, and those of you who are more directly aiding in their efforts. And my thoughts on what really constitutes middle class is by no means a slight on what's being done here. That certainly was not my intention, and I hope it wasn't taken as such. :)

I have to admit I have the same thoughts as I have grown my account and taken similar approaches. I don’t feel that we need to be at 100k to do some of these either. I just completed my first month with no self votes and have found that I got more support and thus did not lose out for making that choice. The only thing I would add is that I would use any extra SP above 100k to delegate to value creating projects.

That's awesome. I know there are several users out there doing the same with no self-votes and I appreciate that. Personally though, at this moment, I don't feel like I'm in a position to get more support by reducing my self-vote percentage. On the other hand, you can't really know until you have tried.

This is not generally speaking, but I've also seen a bunch of people "promoting" their "no self-vote for 30 days" or whatever and get more support by doing that, but they spend a ton of money on bid bots...

I can't understand that. It feels weird to me. And I'm not talking about those minor votes people buy just to get a little extra something on their articles, I'm talking about people buying votes for hundreds of Steem. I can't see the logic there. You either self-vote or not. That's a fact. But why talk about how "awesome you are" because you don't self-vote, meanwhile you buy votes for hundreds of Steem?

Feels weird to me.

We obviously don't need 100K to do things, there are many things one can do with far less SP than that, and I personally believe that I have "something going on" so to speak, even though I haven't figured out everything yet... But that's also why I wanted to talk about having more SP. To see if people would do things differently or not, and what type of things they would do different.

Same thing I do now. Hodl and Preach the Steem gospel. I would probably slow down my accumulation, too. Settle for 25% growth and do more events to help with distribution. I may also stop powering up unless I can pay people steem to do my bidding.

Nothing specific, but I was thinking that we help minnows grow which contributes to distribution.
However, since minnows are new to steem, perhaps encouraging them to help with promotion or on boarding would be good.
They may have stronger ties to other social media or friends who haven't heard the Steem gospel. They also have their persoectives to share. Those supporting them could even make it conditional to receiving enhanced support.
When I hear a whale promoting something I roll my eyes and think I know whats in it for them, but whats in it for me...I wouldn't quite be a whale with 100,000 steem, but that is 200 minnows or 20 dolphins. It would be naive to think my influence is 200x more powerful.
