Luis Enrique Belmont is, without a doubt, one of the best Venezuelan poets of the late 20th century generation. His poetic verb is sharp, strong, challenging, and at the same time delicate and affectionate. The poem you choose has much of that which I notice in his poetry. I perceive and interpret it in the following phrases or fragments:
"It will be necessary (...) to take care of stumbling and safe behaviour"; "He will have to pass his hand / on the back of those who are in the squares"; "It will be necessary to fog the glass again / with the breath of someone who stretches in a sweet winter"; "It will be like crossing a dark ravine / and trusting in the radiance of the last cigarette".
Images loaded with a deep human sense in the search for that gold sense that is to live here and now.
Thank you for sharing your vision of the moment Venezuela is living through this select poetic sample, @nancybriti. Greetings.
