It is perfectly valid to ask God for what we need, Jesus Christ has taught us to do it and to trust him and ask him for what we need: "I say to you: 'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to the one who calls, it will be opened to him. What father is among you who, if his son asks him for a fish, instead of a fish he gives him a snake; Or, if he asks for an egg, does he give him a scorpion? If then you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! "(Lk 11, 9-13).
