The Federal Head of Civil Service in line with the federal government of Nigeria has added an additional five years to all civil servants in Nigeria, yes! this is a good thing, but it is also a bad thing when we look at it from the angle of the youths, therefore, I wonder why something like this always happens in Nigeria, when so many youths are out there in Nigeria hunting for jobs here and there, but the government is adding another five years to people who are already working and then refuse to listen to the cries of the unemployed.
When a person works for thirty-five years, he or she is supposed to be tired and will need to retire, not to mention that if a person works for forty years in the service, he or she will get older and older and will no longer be able to continue working.
My neighbour, who works in the civil service, came home last night and was lamenting how she is going to be working for so long, when she is already of age, and added that she will retire when she works for thirty years, then go home and relax, that is to say, most of the workers are worried about the new policy of the administration.
Because they know that if they don't retire, how will the young job seekers earn a living, People were even complaining that the unemployment rate in Nigeria was so high, now that the government has introduced something like this into the system, I am afraid there will be no improvement in the system.
I mean, there will be a lot of unemployed youths in the country, because every year schools and universities graduate their final year students into the labour market, however, there is no room for people coming out of schools to be employed, because there will be no retirement in the next five years.
When people retire, it creates a vacancy for other people who are willing to enter the service, I can see that even the government has forgotten what is the need for recruitment and the main reason why we have to carry out recruitment.
In my locality, there are many people who graduated many years ago and are not working but hoping that one day, employment will come their way and they would be employed, but it shows that it was all an empty hope for these people as the government is not thinking about them in any way.
If I were closer to the people who signed this policy, I would advise them not to do it and point out the bad side of doing something like this, as it will make more young people lose hope in their own country.
