Another phase of our home is complete, and that means we are one step closer to... well, I don't really know. Our house is already quite a nice place to say, so every upgrade now is probably just a quality of life improvement. Which is always nice. This last upgrade was a pretty welcome one, as I finally got to seal off that gutter in front of the house. Gutters are pretty common here alongside the streets as a system for disposal water and rain to flow. And in rural areas these are usually open, while they are replaced with concrete pipe-ways as you get closer to the city.
Being in a rural means that the government just left of us to deal with the gutter of course, which is bad news for my lower back. Keeping a gutter well maintained and hollowed out is not an easy task. And after doing it no more than two times, I decided to put in the concrete myself and close it off. Many people opt to do this, so it's normal. The picture above was done with a machine and definitely not at the cost of my back. xD The workers we hired had just started.
A very good friend of mine who is a civil engineer took the lead in this project, which I'm very thankful for, because I could completely entrust all the logistics and technical know-how to him. At first they placed a wooden structure that serves as a strong base. This to prevent the concrete pipes from moving out of place or sinking too much over time.
These guys definitely knew what they were doing. They were had the job finished in the same day, in no more than 6 hours I think. Safe to say, I'm am very content with the result.
Little by little the home is getting better and better. It's going slowly primarily because of the fact that I have little time for everything and once, and also because I try to save on things that are too expensive in terms of labor by doing it myself, like painting the rooms in the house. This means that it will take a while before we "finish" everything, but the added value is that the feeling of accomplishment in the end will be more fulfilling.
But that's all in a day's work. Whether you outsource or do it yourself. If you want to achieve something you gotta work, as Barrington Levy so eloquently put it in his appropriately name tune 'Work'.
