Hi hivers. I hope your week has been fruitful so far. One thing I really enjoy, is making fruits arrangements. Some are simple and are done with very few utensils and or equipment.
Growing up in Jamaica, Sunday dinners were special. The meals were bigger and at home, there was always a fruit arrangement or salad, likewise a vegetable arrangement and a fruit drink. When I became a teenager, it was my role to make those for dinner. I enjoyed doing them and my mom was always encouraging. She would allow me to do whatever I wanted to with the fruits and vegetables. Just from a mere sip of the drink, she could tell me what I needed to add to make it more refreshing. Now, I hardly have fruit drinks but from then, my love for fruit and vegetable arrangements developed. Fruits were an all time favorite from a tender age. Living on a tropical island, it was customary to step out in the yard and literally just reach for some fruits. The fruits included mangoes, apples, cherries, oranges, avocados and plums. Mangoes were most common and there were several types.
Apples and Oranges
The arrangement I’m sharing with you today is quick, fun and easy. I used two kinds of fruits, apples and oranges (navel). I washed the fruits and used a knife, fruit baller and cutting board. My boys are always ready to eat so while they appreciate fruit art, they really don’t mind if I just throw on some pieces on a plate and say, “douzo (here you are/ go ahead)”. Haha. If arty, they’re happy if it’s quick. Lol!
You’ll notice that I have two of each fruit in the container. I used both oranges but ended up using just about one apple. This served for four and there was extra.

Step 1 Use a sharp knife to cut to cut the oranges in wedges. The thinner the wedges, the more the spread. Cut away the core if you so prefer.

Step 2 Arrange the wedges to suit the shape of your plate or container. Here, I used a circular plate and arranged the wedges in a circular pattern until there were two rows of or orange slices.

Step 3 Wash the apple and use the fruit baller to make balls of red and white. For white, simply invert the ball of red or peel a portion of the apple before using the baller.

Step 4 Arrange the balls of apple at the centre of the plate to create a flower-like design.
Serve and enjoy.

Tip: When the navel orange (the type I used) is cut in fairly thin wedges, the fruit is easily removed from the peel.
Have a fruitful week.
