I too never saw shortages of hardly any kind in Cambodia. It is a huge adjustment from living in a country that produces too much food and textiles, to a country that is fully reliant upon shipping containers and a shady gold mining industry.
You noticed the "squat," that makes me laugh. Sometimes when I'm in the USA standing outside with friends, my back begins hurting so I bust out the Cambo-squat for some temporary relief, only to have everyone stare at me and start asking lots of questions.
I'm sure SE Asia has rubbed off on you in many ways, and you would probably look like a fish out of water hanging out in 'Merica and talking bout' 'Merican stuff like sports, weather, and reality TV shows.
