Topic: Be Decisive Like Tony Robbins

Tony Robbins is well known author and motivational speaker which his influence covers all over the world. In a recent article that he shared in Fortune China, he shared about his methods to process hard decision making. In the first place, it is essential to not expecting a perfect decision whereby we are trying to avoid mistakes. It is good to foresee mistakes that may arise but fear of it and avoiding it is not a good habit. Not making any decision is the worst failure we can have and this also signifies that we push away our responsibility. Thus, we are ought to have a mindset of taking up the responsibility for whatever shit we decided to do and make good whenever mistakes happen. This is the process of growing up and becoming more competent in the future.
So here are the 6 steps that I get from the sharing which I think is pretty useful for all of us:
1 – Having a clear intended result in your mind. If we do not have a clear final product or final result that we want, we will never be able to achieve anything as we will never know what is the complete condition. Thus, it is important to study and understand what we are doing and know what we are expecting for.

2 – Write down all the ways to realize the result. I found that writing down all the ideas we had is a great way to process thinking. The good old fashion way allows me to list down all my thoughts and lighten the burden of my mind to process more possibilities to achieve the intended result. While we are at the brainstorming session, we can always throw as much idea as we can think of to cover more blind spots when we are on our way to achieve the result we wanted.

3 – Write down all the ways’ pros and cons. The next thing is to analyze the ideas we had and come out with the pros can cons. It is impossible to implement every idea we throw out as the time and energy is limited for everyone. There should be a number of ideas that could make into one comprehensive solution which then become our action plan. The pros can cons can be seen as a risk assessment as well to see which ideas have higher successful possibility, more stability, more efficient and more.

4 – Analyze all the ways and make selection. After that, it is time to analyze all the ways and make the selection on which idea we want to go for. While on this, it is good that we select a few and make it into a more comprehensive solution that I mentioned in item 3. Try to go through situation that we may face while coming out with feasible and clear action plan.

5 – Reassess the methods. Lastly, reassessment of the selected methods and go through one more time before we decide to stick on that. This could be done by putting the solution in a meeting and let other people to comment and criticize. This is to ensure that the action plan we have is good enough to take on real opinions from others.

6 – Stick with the plan and go for it. Once we decide on the action plan, stick with it and make the decision. While on the way to get the result, we may face some situation that we have yet foresee and situation may not turn as we had expected, it is good to have a certain flexibility to get us back on track too. In a nutshell, it is about the determination of getting the expected result in the given time.

Well, I hope that the 6 steps could give all of us some idea on how to make good decision. While for me, I did not go that extent in listing all possible ideas out but for things like investment, why not? So for my beloved readers, what are your strategies to make hard decision?

This is a learning notes series of mine for subscribing to Dedao App, which is a learning App available on iOS and Android. If you are able to understand Chinese and an avid learner, this app is definitely a thing for you! I was using this app since it was launched and I had greatly benefited by following the courses offered. This year, I would like to improve myself by increasing my output which is through doing study notes. I will be perfecting the notes day by day and my resolution is to make 365 notes this year every day (if missed like today, I will be putting up for the missed days).
