Ry Cooder – “No Banker Left Behind”

“No Banker Left Behind” (2011)

Although Ry Cooder has long been a perceptive chronicler of Americana, he had generally steered clear of political topics. But with the crash of 2008 and the subsequent criminal bailout of banksters, executives, and other notorious fraudsters, he realized that there was “something you can do other than just sit and fume about everything.”   

So, Cooder picked up his sword-pen and his guitar, and wrote this clever song skewering those who destroyed the economy and got rewarded for it.

A Sleek, Juicy Gravy Train … Reserved for Banksters

When the shit hit the fan, putting the nation and all of its citizens at risk, the powers-that-be stepped up and saved … the bankers.   

But the poor, the middle class, and even the not-so-rich were tossed aside and left behind. The wealthiest nation in the history of the world did not have enough resources to save those less-fortunate citizens, or even assist them.

Ry Cooder

Cooder is a US musician who is known for his broad range of interests, primarily centered around “roots”  music. He plays a variety of plucked stringed instruments, and has performed with everyone from John Lee Hooker and The Rolling Stones to The Chieftains and Captain Beefheart.   

On Rolling Stone magazine’s 2003 list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,”  Cooder ranked at Number 8.
