On Saturday Kingston based developers, Seve7n Builders, JA Ltd, broke ground on a massive development project in deep West End, just before the Westender Inn, which is part of a larger $3.5US billion project with Alpina Boutique Investments, a Canadian company. Details were scarce, but graphic images show at least 5 highrise towers, plus many other smaller buildings. In addition to luxury hotel rooms and condominiums, the project allegedly will include "affordable" units, a modern hospital that will treat children for free, and a marina.
Without question, a project like this is not compatible with Negril's infrastructure, which is barely able to keep up with current water and electrical demands. While West End Road has been improved, it was not built to carry the number of heavy trucks that would be required during the construction phase, or the increased traffic once the resort has opened.

There was no indication that anything had been submitted to any government agency, such as the parish council or NEPA and it isn't even clear that any property had been purchased.

Stay tuned for more details.
