What are these for? Are they to take water away from your land?

They are mainly for disposal water that comes from water usage in the house. So in our case the bathroom, kitchen and other faucets are connected. Not sewage, that is connected to another system.
I'm also on planning to let excess water in the yard drain into it through something like a french drain system.
Jup, and some of it takes quite a bit of time, because I tend to do some small parts myself.
