@deerjay maybe the tree was blocking the view of that window by it. Maybe weather related, or drops to many leaves or attracts bugs. People find a way to get rid of trees, which suck because it years to grow something that big.

Thank you @solominer! Yes, it had been there a long time. I just thought it odd that they left the portion of the tree but I do believe it was weather related..maybe it will grow still with that portion left?!
Looks like they didnt have power tools. So they trimmed as much as they could.. hard to say if the tree will survive. I've seen trees cut at the stump come back.
