πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ #WednesdayWalk 😎 #MakeMeSmile πŸ“· With @Sreypov πŸͺ Paramaribo, Suriname

@Sreypov and I went for a walk in search of groceries, smiles and laughs, and a picture of the nastiest food ever, mayo.

πŸͺ OFF TO WENG'S SUPERMARKT πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

Β  Β  Β At least once a week I an aim to fill a day with laughter and smiles. The family gets a bit down in spirits at times, but I can't blame them, we've been stranded nearly a year.

Β  Β  Β We needed a few items from the Chinese corner shop, so we headed out on foot to this morning to grab a few items and get some natural Vitamin D.

BEANS

beans.JPG
Surinamers love canned beans

Β  Β  Β As often happens, we arrived too early, which is 8:00am in Suriname. We saw some activity inside though, so we knew they'd be open in a few minutes, and decided to take some photos with the various marketing art that lines the exterior walls of Weng's Supermarkt.

COFFEE AND GOUDA

wengs.JPG
instant coffee and gouda chees, more favorites of Surinamers

Β  Β  Β Next up was instant coffee and gouda, one of which reveals the Dutch colonial history of Suriname. Even though Dutch is the national language, they seem to love giving brands Spanish names like "Magnifico" and "Pacifico."

220 VOLTS OF ENERGY

energy.JPG
"omoe nak mi wan," which I believe means "Chinese storekeeper hit me one"

Β  Β  Β We made to sure snap a pic in front of the "Omoe Nak Mi Wan" wall, complete with another Suriname brand, "Pacifico."

Β  Β  Β Although I've seen slightly different spellings, an "omu / omoe" is a Chinese storekeeper or uncle, and "naki / nak" is to hit or smack. "Mi" is easy enough, "me" and "wan" is one. This might be translated as "Chinese storekeeper hit me one!"

MAYO - I WILL NEVER ENDORSE MAYO

mayo.JPG
I present mayo, the most disgusting food prouct ever created

Β  Β  Β Saving the worst for last, I present you mayonnaise, the most disgusting food product in the world. I hated this stuff as a kid long before I was vegan. One smell of it and I knew this was a food not fit for human consumption.

Β  Β  Β To all of you mayo lovers, I hope you come to your senses one day and realize this stuff is a flavorless waste product. Anyways, after the mayo shot, Weng's opened its doors and we made our way inside.

NEEM, NEEM EVERYWHERE

neem.JPG
Suriname loves neem more than anywhere I've ever been

Β  Β  Β I took one shot inside the store of neem soap, but that's just the tip of the iceberg, because Suriname is in love with all things neem. It seems every other house in Paramaribo has its own neem tree, but I am more of a curry leaf man myself, which isn't nearly as common here.

NOW LET'S SMILE AND LAUGH

IMG_0854.JPG

Β  Β  Β After getting what we needed and heading back home, I asked @Sreypov to take some fun and/or funny pictures in front of the Bechaniestraat sign. "Get some air," I shouted, and Pov leaped for the moon, only to create some unforgettable shots.

HIGHER

IMG_0855.JPG

Β  Β  Β Pov jumped like she was trying to spring out of here all the way back to Cambodia. Either way it gave us some smiles and laughs, especially the person walking behind us that witnessed this foolery.

The first photo is interesting how you were able to put the tags at the back of @Sreypov's photo! I like it the photo edit. Which app did you use?
And wow, she can jump really high too! I can tell that you and she must be athletic!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful walk with us! I enjoyed viewing your article and photos.
Have a wonderful weekend and take care πŸ₯°πŸŒΊπŸ€™

Thank you @misterengagement! Much appreciated! Especially because I really want to accumulate some so that I can likewise distribute them when I visit other Hiver's articles!

Thanks for the compliment and kind words @silversaver888.

The program I create my thumbnails with is GIMP.

It's really simple, totally free and the learning curve is way faster than photoshop, a program that frustrates the hell out me. I basically create two layers, one is everything deleted except the stuff I want to be in front of the text.

The other layer is the original picture. If you put the text in the middle layer, it will be behind the things you've not deleted. There are some YouTube tutorials on how to use GIMP, that's how I've managed so far.

Thank you for the Engage tokens, my friend!
I am very eager to try that program. Once I complete a photo to use in my blog, I will make sure to tag you so that you can critique my work!!! I am thrilled. Thanks for the information, @justinparke. I appreciate you! πŸ₯°πŸŒΊπŸ€™

No problem.

Let me know if you have any trouble making layers, etc. You're not the first person to ask how I do my thumbnails, so I should make a tutorial post eventually.

So I was able to download the app. I have to read the user manual, LOL! I seems all so complicated to me. So I think a simplified version of a tutorial article from you will help! Thanks again @justinparke, and take care πŸ₯°πŸŒΊπŸ€™

Lol, all that unnecessary hate for mayo xD It's true tho, we do love neem, I recently planted a tree in my own yard. But that's also because it helps with pests on a lot of other plants.

Stay safe while shopping!

Thanks @rarej, mayo truly is wrong, shame the Dutch brought it here.

Neem sure is everywhere here. In Cambodia, I remember an equal amount of neem and curry trees, but in Suriname neem rules.

A !beer for you.
Beautiful walk... Love the shots too... An awesome wall decorations for photoshoot...

Thanks @elizacheng.

There aren't many countries left in the world that still do a lot of hand-painted signs and logos. I love that it's still alive in Suriname.
