I started the morning with renewed enthusiasm. After preparing everything, I immediately picked up the women who would be helping with the rice planting. The morning air was fresh, albeit slightly misty, and along the way I could hear the chirping of birds, signaling a sunny day. Upon arriving at the rice fields, I immediately tidied up the land, which was almost entirely ready for planting.
The women I had picked up earlier immediately got to work, skillfully planting the rice seedlings one by one, row by row. The atmosphere was full of laughter, despite the tiring work. Today was the last rice field ready for planting, meaning almost all the land was now filled with young, green rice. Seeing the results of the past few weeks of hard work truly brought a sense of satisfaction.
As the afternoon approached, the sun began to feel sweltering. I decided to go home early and rest. Once home, my body felt incredibly exhausted, and I fell into a deep sleep that lasted for several hours. When I woke up, the sun was still blazing, and the hot air made the afternoon extremely stifling. However, despite the scorching heat, I was grateful that the day's work had proceeded smoothly without any major hiccups.
In the afternoon, before sunset, I returned to the rice fields to sprinkle snail poison to prevent the newly planted rice seedlings from being damaged by these pests. Once everything was done, I immediately went home, showered, and felt refreshed. On the way home, I bought a glass of sweet and refreshing cendol, just the right amount to quench my thirst after a long day working under the hot sun.
When I arrived home, the fragrant aroma from the kitchen greeted me. It turned out that my mother had prepared thimpan balon (balloon cake) filled with sweet mung beans, one of my favorite traditional cakes since childhood. It was soft, savory, and just the right amount of sweetness. Sitting back and enjoying my mother's homemade cendol and thimpan felt so delicious after a long day.
